Russian Pelmeni Recipe

Introduction: Pelmeni are a popular traditional dish in Russia, and they are dumplings stuffed with meat. Perfect for family gatherings and cold days, they are served with sour cream or butter, making them warm and delicious.

Ingredients:

For the dough:

500 g wheat flour

1 egg

A pinch of salt

Water (about 150 ml)

For the filling:

500 g ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Prepare the dough:

In a deep bowl, mix the flour with the egg and a pinch of salt.

Gradually add the water and mix until you get a smooth and elastic dough. Cover the dough with a lid and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Prepare the filling:

In a bowl, mix the ground beef with the chopped onion, and add salt and pepper to taste.

Shaping the pelmeni:

After the dough has rested, roll it out on a floured surface.

Use a cutter or cup to cut the dough into small circles.

Place a small amount of filling in the center of each circle, then fold in half and pinch the edges to secure.

Cook the pelmeni:

Bring water to a boil in a large pot, then carefully add the pelmeni.

Leave them to boil until they float to the surface, which means they are done (about 5-7 minutes).

Use a slotted spoon to remove them.

Serve:

Serve the pelmeni with sour cream or butter, and add some fresh herbs such as dill or parsley for garnish.

Tip: You can make a large batch and freeze the uncooked pelmeni for later use
